Studio Snapshot: Construction continues on DLP's "Tower of Terror" & "Crush's Turtle Twister"

JHM columnist Eric Craven just spent this past weekend visiting the Disneyland Paris Resort. He returns with a photo essay which shows how the expansion of the Walt Disney Studios theme park is going

Well, I'll say this much. There's no way that you'll be able to miss the Disneyland Paris version of the "Tower of Terror." This enormous concrete structure literally towers of the entrance of Walt Disney Studios. As you can see in the photo below, it damn near dwarfs the DLP version of the Earful Tower (AKA the WDS water tower).

And even when we're still supposedly more than a year away from Disneyland Paris guests actually getting a chance to "drop in" on this new thrill ride, the theme park's marketing staff is already trying to get some hype going for this Walt Disney Studios addition. Please note the billboard that they've erected over this future attraction's entrance.

Speaking of future DLP attractions, I notice that they've already got a lot of the track in place for the new "Crush's Turtle Twister" indoor roller coaster. This "Finding Nemo" -themed ride -- along with the "Cars" -themed "Radiator Springs Spinout" -- will make WDS' new "Toon Studios" expansion area a must-see for all you Pixar fans out there.

I really hope the Imagineers know what they're doing with "Crush's Turtle Twister." I mean, some of those turns on this indoor roller coaster look pretty tight to me. Then -- when you factor in that you'll be riding in the dark strapped inside of an enormous turtle that spins ... Well, maybe this will be an attraction that DLP visitors should make a point of experiencing before they have lunch.

That said, I have to admit that I like the attention to detail that WDI is planning on putting into this new Walt Disney Studios attraction. Which will be part dark ride, part indoor roller coaster ...

... combined with state-of-the-art digital projection of some new computer animated footage of the "Finding Nemo" characters that's supposedly going to be produced by the folks up at Pixar. With that combination of elements, "Crush's Turtle Twister" sounds like it's going to be one hell of a ride, don't you think?

Oh, before I forget. Given that I heard that a lot of Disneyana fans were upset when they closed down the "Tarzan Rocks!" show at Disney's Animal Kingdom, I thought that I should remind you folks that the Disneyland Paris equivalent of this live stage show, "The Tarzan Encounter" is still up & running. So if you feel the need to see a "Tarzan" -themed show inside of a Disney theme park, just head on over to DLP ASAP.

Also ... If you're looking to avoid the long lines for DLP's new "Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast," might I suggest that you dress one of your children as everyone's favorite space ranger? Then you can experience what my family & I did this past weekend. Where the cast members who were running this Discoveryland attraction would first ooh & aah over Christopher's costume. Then they'd shove Fast Passes in our hands, insisting that it just wasn't right that Buzz Lightyear should wait to ride his own attraction.

Mind you, this isn't actually the reason that we had my son dress up as Buzz Lightyear. Earlier this year, my two children had entered DLP's "Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast" contest and then won free passes to come back to the theme park to experience this new Discoveryland attraction.

So the Buzz Lightyear costume was just something that we got Christopher to congratulate him for winning that contest. Though now that I've seen the effect that these Halloween costumes have on DLP employees ... Well, next year when my family comes back to Disneyland Paris to experience "Crush's Turtle Twister," I'm giving some semi-serious thought to dressing up my daughter Bailey as a sea turtle.

Anyway ... That's a brief photo update on the Disneyland Paris Resort. It seems like every time we visit here, the theme parks just get better & better.
