Toon Tuesday: Bill Peet beats feet while Louis Prima & his band goes ape at the Mouse Factory

Another great insider history article--Try it out on any casual Disney fan you know, and see how can correctly identify that King Louie was Prima, not Armstrong.  :)
(In fact, the scene where Louie's monkeys hold their "parade" was supposedly an intentional in-joke nod to Prima's jam sessions at their concerts...)
Bill Peet also covered his part of the Jungle Book years in his kids'-book "Autobiography", for those who want the other side of the story.

And for Phil Harris voicing Baloo, I don't remember seeing much of Harris' solo-act years, but every time we play Jack Benny Show tapes to the kids on long car trips, we like to point out, "Hey, that's Baloo!"...
They never hear it though--The late-60's Harris was about an octave lower and more gravelly than his "Jackson" years.

Another wonderful article, Mr. Norman!  I can't wait until Part Three!  I can't get over how Harris and Prima recorded that scat separately- I never would have guessed, since it's so seamless.  I'm on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what happened after Mr. Peet left!  And, I love your picture of Mowgli and Baloo!!!

I am really enjoying this series. The iron fist of Walt is interesting to read about, he was definitely a man with a sense of purpose about what he was doing.

(P.S. Jim, this is how you complete a multi-part series! please pay attention)

Great article, Floyd! I enjoy all of your articles, each is a pleasure to read.

Not to be pushy or anything, but at the end of the 1st installment, you said that you would write about Rocky the Rhino & why he was taken out of the picture in Part 2. I'm sorry if this seems too rude for a novice cartoonist like myself, but I was curious. Can't wait for the next part!

Bill Peet lost Walt Disney's trust on THE SWORD IN THE STONE. His days were numbered after that.

Great story.

I wonder if the succeeding producers/directors remembered what Walt said from that particular meeting? Were they sincerely trying to entertain their audience, or were they too busy trying to take notes from Walt's grave?

"Google images" is just a search engine, not a source of anything.  If you're going to credit a picture found on another site, credit the site, not Google.  In this case it looks like it's from billpeet.net

I enjoyed the articce. Bill Peet and Walt D. had a very stormy relationship, but they actually respected each other, Neither one (I betcha) thought that Peet (or knew Peet would) would end up a successful writer/illustrator of children's books shortly thereafter!

I have a number of 1940s Phil Harris songs like ":Goofus"m,"The Old Master Painter","Shadrach","One-Zy Two-Zy",with his little daughter Alice,"The Thing", and "44 Syncamore," among others..his "Old Master Painter" is playing and it's hard NOT to say.."Ba-LOOOOO!"
