This past Sunday, Pirates fans from all over New England made their way to the Loews Boston Common 19

Why For? To finally get a glimpse of the long-awaited trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."

In spite of the freakishly cold weather that day, a large portion of the crowd still came dressed as authentic Pirates of the Caribbean. All decked out with swords, scarfs and sashes.

Given that Boston was still digging itself out from a late winter snowstorm, Disney's marketing staffers seemed thrilled that so many Pirates fans had actually made a trip into the city just to catch the "At World's End" trailer. Which is why they made sure that each & every person waiting in line received a special limited-edition "Pirates" portfolio.

Emblazoned with a crossed pair of swords as well as a Pirate skull, this jet-black folio contained an official Capt. Jack Sparrow bandana ...

... an "Ultimate Fan Event" credential as well as a beta test version of "Pirates of the Caribbean Online," the multi-player role-playing game that's expected to go live in May.

This packet also included a limited edition litho of some of the more gruesome characters that "Pirates" fans can expected to encounter once Disney's massive multi-player game comes online. Where you'll then get the chance to live & play just as Captain Jack Sparrow does. Searching the Seven Seas for treasure as well as crossing swords with any undead ghoul that gets in your way.

As nice as those giveaway items may have been, according to Jeff, the real highlight of the day was still the "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" trailer. That said, given how cold it was this past Sunday, a few images struck a little too close to home for Mr. Lange.

How so? Well, take -- for example -- those shots of Barbossa's ship sailing through icy waters, with the captain himself covered with frost. They just reminded Jeff of the long cold walk that he'd soon have to take across Boston Common. In order to get back to the place where he'd parked his car.

Speaking of Mr. Lange & pirates ... In addition to being JHM's official photographer & archivist, Jeff Lange also operates an online store where he sells a series of highly acclaimed Disney theme park DVDs. And among his more recent titles is a disc that documents Walt Disney World's newest after-hours event, the "Pirates & Princesses Party" at the Magic Kingdom. • I saw the trailer and it was awesome! Action, drama, adventure!

Don't know if I would go to a special event just to see the trailer before the rest of the world though.. Especially if it was really that cold out there :)

  • Wow- those are some dedicated fans.  I'm from Mass., and I was talking to my mom yesterday and she said it was 15 degrees in the morning, with a high of 39.  I was home for Christmas, and it was in the 30s and great...but, anyhoo, I hope they enjoyed the trailer- I agree with empoor- I don't think I would go somewhere just to watch a trailer (granted, it was on the big screen), especially since it would be on TV and online.

  • The best part of the trailer is the shot of the water running off the end of the world.

I beleive the of that was shot at Niagara Falls and then digitally altered.  A fantastic look!

  • It sure looks like everybody had a great time in Boston despite the cold.

I hope this film is a continued sucsess for the company.

However, now the pressure is on...what will they do next? (live action wise)

  • "Did anyone come to rescue me simply because they missed me?"

    Monkey Jack raises his hand.

That little bit alone cracked me up.  I can't wait for Pirates 3.

WEC: I believe their next live action project will be Prince of PErsia and a Jungle Cruise movie.

  • Jim kind of forgot to mention that besides the freebies and the preview for At World's End that Curse of the Black Pearl was also shown.  Which was a nice reminder that there are just some movies that NEED to be seen on a big screen with an audience, and I'm not talking a DVD party at someone's home with a big plasma screen TV.  :)

  • Psh. Representing Pirates of the Caribbean Ultimate Fa Event Miami!

Me and the other 8 people who showed up had a BLAST (ok truth be told there were like 80 people)

I took 2nd place in the costume contest and made friends with the actors who were hired to enterain us. The goodies were cool and I dont care what you say... less than 10,000 people in the country got to check out the trailer, and thats just cool.

AND they showed it TWICE lol. It was such a good time.

True dedication here... we drove 4 hours from Bradenton to Miami for the event. It was great!

  • Pirates of the Caribbean?   There are public record-court color photos comparing the 1994 supernatural pirate movie vs. the 2003 supernatural pirate movie. - it's at www.disneylawsuit.com

Hmmm, no, I don't think they stole it.. It's based upon the same concept, and yes, some shots are the same. But hey, some shots are always the same between different movies. I don't think Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio really got their inspiration from some small indie film, and too little shots are the same to be believable. Don't think the case will stick.

  • @ greenyskp:

Hahaha! Sounds fun :) And that is true dedication, to drive 4 hours to the event.. But if it was worth it, who cares :P

  • Woohoo! Thank you, Jeff!

I read this on Thursday and this was the first I had heard of the trailer being released. Thank you for the info and the Yahoo trailer link. Made my day.

Oh, if only I lived on the East Coast...ah, well.
