Well, here we are in Week 2 of the Walt Disney Company dealing with its Undressa Hudgens situation. And based on what I've been hearing, Mickey has finally decided that it will in fact stand behind this "High School Musical" star.

Mind you, it's not like the Mouse ever really had the option of distancing itself from Ms. Hudgens. Everywhere you look, Vanessa's image is being used to help hype "High School Musical" -related merchandise. Everything from posters ...

... Ms. Hudgens' likeness is even being used to help sell Troy & Gabriella dolls.

And given that Disney & Feld Entertainment are right in the middle of launching "High School Musical: The Ice Tour" ...

... The Mouse doesn't need this scandal, as mild as it now may be ...

Which is why Mickey ordered Vanessa to back out of her long-scheduled appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" last Thursday night. To Disney's way of thinking, the very last thing that Ms. Hudgens needed last week was to be seated across from Leno while that late-night TV host asked her (a la Hugh Grant) "What the hell were you thinking?"

Luckily, Vanessa caught a break last week. In that that long-rumored second set of salacious photographs finally surfaced and proved to be rather tame. They just showed Vanessa with a bunch of her female friends, obviously camping it up for the camera. Which made it difficult for this nude-HSM-star story to catch a second wind with the National Enquirer and TMZ crowd.

Of course, that didn't stopped the Enquirer from trying. They've actually got a story up this week that talks about how Ms. Hudgens supposedly sent a copy of this now infamous nude photo to her then-boyfriend, Adam O'Neal.

Which puts kind of an interesting new twist on this tale. Given that this National Enquirer article alleges that Vanessa e-mailed this image to Adam back in January of 2004. When Ms. Hudgens was just 15 years-old and O'Neal only 16.

Which you'd think -- given that we're now talking about a nude photograph of a minor -- would give Disney officials apoplexy. But based on what company insiders have told me, they were secretly thrilled once they learned that Vanessa took this picture of herself back in 2004.

As one unnamed official explained it to me:

"It's great news for us that this picture is over three years old. That means that Vanessa didn't take a nude photo of herself while she was working on any of our 'High School Musical' movies. That means that this scandal can't really be tied back to the Walt Disney Company, the Disney Channel or Zac Efron. We're all off the hook now. Everyone except Ms. Hudgens, of course."

This is why Mickey has asked Vanessa to keep an extremely low profile between now and December 11th. Which is when the "High School Musical 2: Extended Edition" DVD officially goes on sale.

After that ... Well, provided that she keeps her nose clean (More importantly, her clothes on), Ms. Hudgens should be invited back to reprise her role of Gabriella Montez in "High School Musical 3" when production begins next March.

Please note that accent on the word "should." Mouse House officials have made it very clear to Vanessa that her participation in the third HSM film now depends on no more nude photographs surfacing. And given that the Tabs have put the word out that they are willing to pay big bucks to anyone who can come forward with new naked pictures of Ms. Hudgens ... Well, it's going to be interesting to see what happens over the next few months.

So what do you folks think? Has Disney's PR team been handling its Undressa Hudgens problem fairly well? Or is there something else that Mickey could be doing in order to distract the "High School Musical" crowd?

  • Blah, if those photos were taken years before HSM, people should still know that minors are going to do dirty stuff, regardless if they know its illegal.

For now, Hudgens really needs to shut up about being a role model. There's no such thing as one anyway.

  • well, this is old news.   Disney ahd already said they were standing behind her.  Several parents of fans were evn interviewed and said that the media was overhyping something that is unimportant.  Besides the nude picture fiasco has been overhyped more on Jimllmedia than reall news outlets.

  • People need to understand that whatever actors do in their own free time is they business and no one else's. The only bad thing here is that the photo got leaked somehow. But other than that... If she was making XXX movies during Disney time, that would be a problem. The girl has the right to live her life the way she sees fit.

  • I hate to always say this when Jim posts a High School Musical article, but I so don't care!

I realize that as the Disney fan that I am, I should be interested. It's a huge money maker for the company and all, but I just don't care. I don't think Disney and automatically think High School Musical and I actually hate the fact that it's such a big hit and associated with Disney.

I know he has to do stories on it, and I continue to read them. I just imagine that he's reporting in som other company and their cheesy teen movie.

  • Why is high school musical popular... still?! It's retarded.

    ... RETARDED!!!

Also, Vanessa Hudgens did something that many girls her age do and have been doing since puberty was invented. So they leaked... who cares? High School Musical is really retarded... I have nothing against the actors and actresses really.. well except for Zack Efron. They all seem to be talented young kids, but you can sprinkle glitter on poo and call it Ambrosia, but it will always be poo... covered in glitter.

They should make better tv movies that spark fantasy, mystery, imagination, etc. Not ... pop-music based musicals that reflect high school as some breeding grounds for overly misrepresented teens are act like they're twenty-somethings. I mean the movie is basically a stupid cheerleader-melodic version of Dawson's Creek minus the sex and drama.

Granted, the show's portrayal of the kids and high school is all for good fun and entertainment... but High School Musical .... Michael Eisner farted out better crap than this and he sucked.

... oh yeah, back to the whole nude picture scandal...

Disney shouldn't worry too much about reputations. I mean... Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff are infamous for their personal lifes, and Disney has moved on quite nicely.

  • Much ado about NOTHING...

  • It's certainly low on the scandal totem- except for the ongoing status of HSM and its demographic. I tell you, she's probably not going to have much negotiating power when it comes to a HSM3 pay raise in light of this. But it's nothing terribly new. I caught a bit of E's MMC docu and it went into the original cast not just the Brit set. Doreen posed nude for some magazine with Mouse Ears. I can't imagine that went over well- ex-employee or not.

  • If the alleged cell phone video appears, I bet Vanessa gets the boot from the Mouse--and rightly so. She's representing a brand, and she has to be held to high standards. I haven't heard any similar stories coming out about other young, female Disney stars like Raven or Ashley Tisdale. They may be doing the same things, but if so they've at least got the good sense to keep it a secret.

As for the claim that "everybody's doing it"... Well, that's surely what kids watching people like Hudgens might come to think. But as someone who works with youth a lot, I can tell you that it's a lie; not everyone is out there doing stuff like this.

  • I love that underaged nudity is treated with a blase attitude around here. As if it really shouldn't be a big deal. And of all places, at a website about Disney, a company that celebrates childhood and innocence. Unreal.

I'm as liberal as they come, but it's just odd that people shrug this stuff off like it's not a big deal. Take a look around the internet and you'll find it is a big deal. And then take a walk through a mall or wait until you have daughters and they turn 15. Then tell me you don't think it's a big deal if they're taking nude pictures in the bedroom you provide for them. Hey as long as you don't find out what they're doing, you'll be fine with it, right?

  • Desperad07:  I agree but to the extent that her parents should be concerned and talking to her about it and parents of the girls who look up to her should talk to them if they ask and explain that what she did was NOT a good thing.  I think that's at least acting responsibly.  Other than that though I feel like she's being WAY over-punished by a hypocritical media and that Disney is being very stand-up by sticking by her when they have no reason to.  It actually makes me proud to work for them.

  • Hey hey, xawesomexelix. Don't be using "retarted" as an insult!

  • There's still a small voice inside that says I should be shocked that this happened... but very little on the Internet shocks me anymore. Really, if we knew the "dirty little secrets" of the behind-the-scenes people of any of our favorite shows, we'd probably never watch them again... "I can't believe they'd be involved in something so wholesome and yet do THAT".

Yeah, it's wrong. And it's going to be forgotten. Sadly, too many other celebrities have done this before her.

Man, I'm too young to be this jaded.

  • To me, this is a matter of perspective. Celebs, some "role models", get caught with worse all the time. And I'm sure others still have the clout and/or $ to keep things out of the tabloids. There's much worse out there, although the connection with a franchise lead is the real problem. I mean, this isn't nearly as big a deal: http://www.backstage.com/bso/news_reviews/other_news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003638779 But the articles would be written here had it been Kim's voice rather than Bonnie's.
