A somewhat angry Tom B. writes in say:

Enough with the stories about Comic-Con! I think it’s pretty arrogant of you to assume that every JHM reader is interested in hearing about what’s going on in San Diego this year. You know what would be a nice change? If you posted a story about some Disneyana events that weren’t happening at this year’s Comic-Con.

Ask and ye shall receive.

Having just wrapped up a highly successful stay in Chicago (where – over its 18 week run at the Cadillac Palace Theatre -- this Disney Theatrical production grossed over $18.5 million), the North American tour of “Mary Poppins” now moves on to Cleveland’s State Theatre. Where this Tony Award-winning musical will begin presenting performances tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. and then continue on in this venue through August 9th. Mind you, if you’re more of an animation fan, then you should probably check out “Once Upon a Dream: The Art of Sleeping Beauty.” This exhibit – which is being presented at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco – officially gets underway on Saturday and will then run through January 10, 2010.

“The Art of Sleeping Beauty” (as you may have already guessed) pays tribute to that hand-drawn Disney classic, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its original theatrical release this year. This Cartoon Art Museum exhibit will feature original pencil art that was used in the development of this animated feature. Not to mention hand-inked animation cels, color guides as well as behind-the-scenes photographs of the cast & crew as they struggled to complete this 70mm production.

If – on the other hand – you like animation, music AND live action, then you probably want to drop by the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, CT next Friday night. “Why For?,” you ask. Because – as their “Family Film Series,” the Ridgefield Playhouse will be presenting “Enchanted.”

“And why would I want to go to a movie theater to see a Walt Disney Pictures release from 2007 that I already have on Blu-ray and/or DVD?,” you query. Well, the two gentlemen who wrote the score for “Enchanted” – Academy Award-winners Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz – will be on hand for next Friday screening. And after “Enchanted” is over, Alan & Stephen will be joined on stage by Rachel Covey (i.e. the 8-year-old actress who played Morgan, Patrick Dempsey’s daughter in this Kevin Lima film). Where these three will then take questions from the audience about what it was like to actually work on this Oscar-nominated motion picture.

So there you have it, Tom B. Three Disney-related events that AREN’T being presented in San Diego. More importantly, that have absolutely nothing to do with the 2009 Comic-Con International.

That work for you? Hope so.
