Go ahead. Admit it. When it comes to the Disney characters, you're confident. You're incredibly well versed when it comes to all of their quirks & histories. But when it comes to all of those comic book heroes & villains that The Walt Disney Company acquired when it purchased Marvel Entertainment back in August of 2009 ... Not so much.

Well, if you'd like to quickly get up-to-speed on all of the Marvel characters, then I suggest that you plant yourself on the couch this coming Friday afternoon. Where - from 3 - 9:30 p.m. ET / PT - Disney XD will be staging "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!" marathon.

And we're not just talking about the regular half-hour-long episodes of this new Marvel Animation show. As part of this Friday's "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!" marathon, you'll also get to see those micro-episodes that Disney had produced. Which will then introduce you to the back story, allies and nemeses of all the Marvel superheroes who  form the Avengers. That team which you call when the powers of a single hero just aren't enough to save the world.

And once you get through all 20 of those five-and-a-half-minute-long micro-episodes, you'll  then plunge right into all of "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!" episodes that have been shown on Disney XD to date. Which will show you how Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Ant-Man/Giant Man and Wasp ultimately came together and formed a team.

And then - from 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. ET / PT - it's time for "Gamma World," an "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!" story that's so huge, so action-packed that it actually takes two back-to-back episodes in order to tell it properly.

So if you want to get a sense of what The Walt Disney Company is actually looking to do with Marvel, the compelling sorts of stories that the Mouse wants to tell with these comic book characters in the years ahead, then find a spot on the couch this Friday afternoon (or - at the very least - program the DVR / set up the Tivo to record each of these episodes) and then get all caught up on Disney XD's "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!"

  • Still don't get why Iger thought Disney needed Marvel. The Marvel characters are NOT a surety of any sort. Some movies based on Marvel characters have done well (Spiderman), some have not (Hulk, several times). I want to hurl every time I see Marvel merch in a Disney store. Disgusting.

  • You know how little girls go absolutely nuts over the Disney Princesses?  They buy anything and everything with them on it?  Now Disney has something for boys, with an age range that goes ABOVE that of the Princess's.  I thought it was a brilliant move.

If awesome superheroes in the Disney Store make you want to hurl, I can only imagine what horrible sickness you got when the Power Rangers would show up.

  • This show is terrible.  Huge Marvel fan, but this is a pile of dung.
