Is it just me? Or has Columbia Pictures gone a little too far in its attempt to freshen up Spidey's look for that Studio's soon-to-be released reboot of its "Spider-Man" film franchise?

Oops. My mistake. The above artwork has nothing to do with "The Amazing Spider-Man" (which is due to be released to theaters on July 3rd). It's actually one of the Marvel-themed costumes which Club Penguin users will be able to "suit up" in starting tomorrow as that virtual world's Marvel Super Hero Takeover event gets underway.

This two-week-long event (which -- truth be told -- is just a variation of those themed parties that periodically held in this online world) is actually a pretty big deal in Club Penguin circles. This is the first time ever that the No. 1 online world for kids is allowing an outside franchise to enter its virtual realm. Over the next two weeks, Club Penguin users can dress up as a Marvel Super Hero (The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Nick Fury, Ms. Marvel, Iron Fist and Nova)  or as a Marvel Super-Villain (Loki or the Lizard).

From there ... Well, Club Penguin users can then form teams (Avengers Assemble!) and do battle with the evil Destructobot in a members-only part of this Marvel-themed world known as the "Downtown Showdown." Or all on their own, these members can enjoy & explore Marvel Super Hero headquarters.

Mind you, this is the first time that two of the more popular Disney-owned franchises are coming together. But it won't be the last. Coming out of this week's Licensing Expo in Las Vegas is news that 2013 will bring a special programming event where the characters from the Disney Channel / Disney XD's super-popular "Phineas and Ferb" will cross over into the Marvel Universe.

Dr. Doofenshmirtz already looked an awful lot like Loki in the "Excaliferb" episode of

So will Dr. Doofenshmirtz do battle with Dr. Strange?  More importantly, will Major Monogram compare notes with Nick Fury when it comes to the proper way to run a super-secret spy organization? Only time will tell.

For now ... Well, don't miss your chance to see how silly a Penguin looks when he tries to squeeze into Thor's armor by signing up to take part in Club Penguin's two-week-only Marvel Super Hero Takeover event.

  • Major Monogram... not Monocle.

  • i watched the movie

  • PHINEAS & FERB along with MARVEL sounds awesome!!!  That could be really cool, and a good ratings winner for DISNEY XD.

  • Doofenshmirtz doesn't have a "c" in his name. His name is spelled out on an oddly-shaped giant purple building in most episodes. You spelled the name correctly in the tags, but not the article.

  • That would be cool, but lately CP has been going down hill. This party is SO boring for non-members! I had a 2 year membership (I had to test new things every day for 10 months and that's how they paid me) and it expired a few days ago, and I never go on because the non-members can only 'pretend' to catch thieves or be one. Which is retarded, so that explains that Disney is $MONEY HUNGRY$ and make people pay to have fun. But they do have good ideas.  ~WADDLE~ON~                   ````````````````````````````
