Well, you know what they say: You can’t hit a moving target.
That’s why — little more than a week after we got back from the San Diego Comic Con — Nancy & I are heading back to Southern California. This time around, we’ll be winging our way to LA. Where we’ll be spending the next six days wandering around the Convention Center, trying to learn as much as we can about the bleeding edge of technology by attending SIGGRAPH 2004.
(Let me tell you, folks: This is one of these events where I’m truly happy that Nancy agreed to come along from the ride. Given that I often have trouble operating a toaster oven, I was kind of dreading wandering from booth to booth. As salesman after salesman tried to explain to me why their hi-tech device was the latest and greatest. But now that Ms. Stadler has agreed to accompany me to SIGGRAPH 2004 [Filling that all important role of interpreter. So that she can translate all that hi-tech talk to something a dweeb like me can understand], I might actually have a chance of understanding what the hell is going on around me.)
Not to worry, though. While Nancy and I are attending seminars next week, JHM will still be in very capable hands. Webmaster Tony Moore will be holding down the fort.
And I promise that I’ll file a couple of stories from LA next week. In addition to attending SIGGRAPH, Nancy and I have also made plans to attend Donald Duck’s walk of fame of ceremony in Hollywood as well as attend that “Three Musketeers” screening at the El Capitan that immediately. Plus some other fun stories that I really can’t talk about yet.
I know, I know. This is a pretty feeble way to JHM to go out on a Friday. So how’s about this: Last week, I wrote an article for skwigly.uk.com about Brad Bird’s involvement with Pixar’s next picture, “The Incredibles.” Which I think you might enjoy reading.
And — while you’re over at skwigly — why not check out that site’s new chat room. Where you can learn all sorts of stuff about new animated feature as well as get to meet some other folks who are huge animation fans.
Okay. That’s pretty much it for now. I promise — once I get back from this next trip — to stay put for a while. To share all of these great stories that I’ve gathered from VES and Comic Con and SIGGRAPH.
But — for now — I’ve got some clothes to fold and a suitcase to pack. You folks have a great weekend, okay? See you on Monday!
