Anaheim Update: Wide Awake next to “Golden Dreams” (Now with pictures!)

It’s just after 5 a.m. out in Southern California. But already the line of annual passholders — anxious to get into Disneyland’s 50th birthday celebration today — is wrapping itself around DCA’s interior.

To hear Roy Mitchell tell the tale:

“The line begins in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area. It winds past the “Muppetvision” theater, past the new “Monsters, Inc.” ride, back to the Hyperion Theater (Where guests are actually asleep on the ground inside the forced perspective area. Making it look as if giant homeless people have somehow invaded the real Hollywood Boulevard). The line then shoots back up HPB’s main drag, out into Sun Plaza, across that part of the park down past the Golden Vine Yineyard complex, past the “Golden Dreams” theater and off into the Paradise Pier area.

The crowd’s spirits? Most everyone inside DCA right now seems tired but happy. The assumption is — if you’re inside California Adventure by now — you’re pretty much guaranteed entrance to Disneyland today.”

Still, to make sure that proper priority is given to those who arrived first, color-coded wristbands have been issued to all those who have entered DCA in the pre-dawn hours. Those who are first in line are wearing blue wristbands …

Speaking of “first in line,” the very first person in line this morning is a woman from Greenwich, CT. And — in order to secure the coveted top spot at Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration — this young lady actually got on line at 3 p.m. Ai-yi-yi-yi …

Roy, Jeff Lange & Angela Ragno? They’re currently standing in front of the “Golden Dreams” show building, patiently waiting for the line to begin moving. The current rumor is that Disneyland will finally open its doors at 7 a.m. And this long line of tired annual passholders will then slowly begin moving through DCA, across Disneyland Plaza and then (finally) into the “Happiest Place on Earth.”

Roy & Jeff promise to send along an update just as soon as they actually get into Disneyland. I’ll be sure to post their comments as soon as I receive them. So stay tuned …
