Annual NFFC Show & Sale gets underway this Sunday in Garden Grove

So what’s your New Year’s resolution?

Is it to clear up the clutter at your house by selling off that huge pile of Disney plush? Or are you finally determined to complete your collection of Disneyland collector plates? Or is it that you want to develop a hobby that really taps into your creative side?

Well, if any of the above suggestions sound remotely like your resolution for 2006, then you might want to consider heading out to Garden Grove, CA. this coming Sunday. Where the National Fantasy Fan Club will be holding its annual Show & Sale at the Crown Plaza Resort.

More than 100 dealers are expected to take part in this year’s event (Which will be held in the hotel’s Mazzatlan Ballroom). And Disney enthusiasts from all over the country will be crowding into the Crown Plaza to pick over nearly 150 tables loaded of new & vintage items. Whether you’re a collector of Disney pins or classic toys or ceramics, rare books & posters, or even brand-new fan-produced DVDs … You’re sure to find something here that you’ll want to add to your collection.

If — on the other hand — you’re tired of collecting things and want to try to do something new in the new year … Then you may want to consider taking part in one of the two artisan workshops that the NFFC will be hosting at the Crown Plaza this coming Sunday.

The first of these will be a 6-hour-long workshop hosted by Disney Legend Rolly Crump. Entitled “Using your Creativity and Imagination,” Crump will teach attendees how to create illustrations that can then be turned into pieces of three dimensional art. As part of this presentation, Rolly will also give a lecture as well as show some of the non-Disney-related pieces that he’s created over the years. Attendees will receive a sketchbook as well as personal interaction with this Disney Legend.

The second of these two workshops will be entitled “A (Stitch) in Time.” This 3-hour-long session will be hosted by Terri Hardin, a former Disney Imagineer as well as a veteran Jim Henson puppeteer. Terri will first teach attendees how to create a Stitch out of sock puppets. Then Ms. Hardin will talk about voice & character design as well as basic puppeteering.

Please be advised that space is extremely limited in Sunday’s artisan workshops. Only 20 people will be allowed to take part in each of these programs.

Also be advised that there will be an additional entry fee for each of the NFFC’s artisan workshops. Guests will have to pay $75 to take part in Rolly Crump’s “Using Your Creativity and Imagination” program and $50 to join Terri Hardin in her “A (Stitch) in Time” workshop.

Speaking of entry fees … The cost of admission to this year’s Show & Sale is $5 for NFFC members (with valid NFFC membership card) and Disney Company Cast Members (with valid ID card), while members of the general public have to pay $6 in order to get into the Mazzatlan Ballroom.

However, JHM readers can actually get a break on this year’s admission price. If you print out this article and then bring it along Sunday to the Show & Sale, the NFFC rep working at the admission table will gladly knock a buck off of the cost of your admission. So that you can then get into the ballroom for the same price that NFFC members & Disney Company employees pay.

Just to review here: The world’s largest strictly Disneyana Show & Sale (sponsored by the National Fantasy Fan Club, the club for Disneyana Enthusiasts) will be held this coming Sunday at the Crown Plaza Resort Hotel. Which is located about a mile and a half south of Disneyland in Garden Grove, CA. At the Southwest corner of Harbor Bouelvard and Chapman Avenue.

The Show & Sale opens to the general public starting at 11 a.m. Members of the NFFC can enter the Mazzatlan Ballroom starting at 9 a.m. More importantly, the sales floor will close promptly at 5 p.m.

For those of you who are anxious to get a jump on Sunday’s fun, the NFFC will be running a hospitality suite at the Crown Plaza starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow night. If you’re a pin trader and/or just want to check out the room hopping board, you should probably make a stop at this suite.
