Baby, It’s Cold Outside … and Inside too! UPDATE

DECEMBER 19, 2008 — To quote Professor  Hubert Farnsworth from “Futurama” : “Good news, everyone.”

Last night at approximately 8:30 p.m. EST, the power finally came back on in our part of New Boston. After a full week of shivering and swearing, of carrying in dozens of logs to fuel our wood stove as well as hauling endless buckets of water up from the stream that runs through our property (So that Nancy and I could then flush the toilets. I know, I know. TMI) … It’s just so great now to be able to flick a switch and literally “Let there be light.” And heat. And running water.

Thanks again to all the PSNH employees as well as those out-of-state power crews who have been working ’round the clock in order to pull Southern New Hampshire out of the dark ages. You guys are literally lifesavers. And your tireless efforts have made this holiday season a whole lot brighter — and warmer — for hundreds of thousands of people up here in New England.

Mind you, we’re still picking up the pieces out here in the woods. There’s a lot of clean-up yet to do. Plus another snowstorm coming in today. So it’ll probably be a couple of days before JHM is finally able to resume its usual five-stories-a-week, Monday-through-Friday schedule.

But until that happens, check out the piece that I just posted about Jeffrey Katzenberg’s trip to Boston earlier this week to talk up “Monsters Vs Aliens” as well as DreamWorks Animation’s new InTriu 3D process.

Thanks for all your supportive messages & warm thoughts. Nancy and I genuinely appreciated them.

And now … It’s just great to be here back in 2008. To leave the cold & the hard work of 1908 behind.

DECEMBER 18, 2008 — My apologies for JHM being light on content these past few days. But last Thursday night, New Hampshire was hit by this hellacious ice storm. Trees came crashing down in all directions (I personally had to cut down 40 of them just so that I’d then be able to drive down my driveway). Consequently, some 420,000 people were left without power.

PSNH has been working day and night since then to try & restore electricity. To help out, they’ve called in crews from all over the country. And as of this moment, 500 teams are out in the bitter cold, first clearing all the trees that fell on those lines and then working to restore power.

As of this morning, some 360,000 customers now have their lights back on. Unfortunately, Nancy and I are not in that group … not yet, anyway. We kept hearing that our electricity may yet turned back on tonight. Or possibly tomorrow.

Either way, if you folks can just hang in there for another couple of days, hopefully we’ll get our power & internet access restored soon. And then (hopefully) I can finally get around to posting all of the articles that I had lined up for earlier this week.

Thanks again for your patience. And please send some warm thoughts our way,

Best Regards,

j
