Considering how many rolls of film have been exposed each day in the camera’s of Disneyland guests, I always found it interesting that over the years Disney sold a line of slides or transparencies with images from all over the Park. Now these views offer us a way to reach back across the years and enjoy a memory or three of a trip we enjoyed.
Now I have used views from some of these slides before in some of my columns. Today, I’ve grabbed a few from old favorites that are no longer with us, or are undergoing refurbishing ahead of Disneyland’s 50 th Anniversary. So, open up those coupon books and join the fun!
Tomorrowland has been a popular area for guests, when the attractions are available for them to enjoy. Things are looking up as a number of projects are underway there now.
Two guest favorites – The WEDWAY Peoplemover, and the Submarine Voyage. The former gone, and the latter looking to return as a new and improved attraction.
No, it’s not your imagination… Those really are mermaids in the Submarine Voyage lagoon. And it looks better every day that the subs will sail in 2005.
Space Mountain has always been a guest favorite. The return of the white dome was the sign of good things to come.
One of the favorite gags from Space Mountain had a chocolate chip cookie doing it’s impression of an asteroid. New and more convincing effects are part of the project that will thrill guests late in 2005.
Another popular “E” ticket attraction getting attention again is the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Take a close look at the photo, as it shows both the old and new bobsleds being used at the same time!
Frontierland always had a popularity all kids seemed to understand. Here’s hoping that Fort Wilderness will someday soon welcome visitors.
A popular feature on Tom Sawyer’s Island that has been refurbished is this Floating Barrel Bridge. How many of us bounced our way across? Note the smaller version of Rainbow Falls in the background!
Hail Columbia, the gem of the ocean! Getting a well deserved refitting under cover in Fowler’s Harbor, she’ll sail the Rivers of America again soon!
New Orleans Square was home to the “One-of-a-Kind Shoppe”. Truly wonderful items found there way home with many happy guests, including a classic brass door knocker that could easily have passed for the face of Jacob Marley from his appearance in Charles Dickens, “A Christmas Carol”.
Gone but certainly not forgotten…
A trio of bear cuties…
At the original Country Bear Jamboree!
So there you have it, another selection of views from Disneyland’s past! I hope that you enjoyed seeing them as much as I enjoyed sharing them with you! Look for more of them here again next month!
I know I’ve been pushing the American Red Cross for your consideration at the end of my last few columns. I’m doing it again today. There are one heck of a lot of people they continue to help on a daily basis all over the world right now. Hurricanes have made even the most simple of tasks incredibly difficult and if you can help, it does indeed make the difference in many lives, around the world.
