Disney
Infinity was the star of the Disney Interactive booth at E3 last week.

People
stood in two-plus hour-long lines to have a t-shirt, jersey tee or hoodie made
with their choice of Disney Infinity character mash-ups:

That wasn't
all. There was another long line of people waiting to try out the game itself.
For a reward, they received whatever character(s) they were playing with. Most coveted was the
two-character Cars set. Noe got Dash Incredible. I got The Lone Ranger and
Tonto.

When I was
playing, I caught sight of Fix-it Felix Jr. and asked if he was a character in
the game. He's a NPC (non-player character). There are a ton of NPCs in this
game, so I'm just going to list the playable characters that will be I saw
were:

Power Disks
tell the Disney Infinity Platform about your character's surroundings and are stackable, so you can
pull elements from more than one property in Toy Box Mode. For example, I
themed a racetrack that was there to
look as if it came from Alice in Wonderland. It was still a
racetrack, but it looked like it belonged
in the movie, with fantastically colorful
flowers surrounding the track.

As you
play, you unlock gadgets and characters. For example, we pulled in Slinky Dog and Mirage, and then used a goo
gun to shrink them to very small, make them grow to over twice the size of our
character, Dash, and give them huge
heads like bobble heads.
Then, we
themed the desert we were in to Alice in Wonderland as well. It was
fantastic! There's nothing you can't do in Toy Box Mode.

In Play Set
mode, we were in the world of The Lone Ranger. We couldn't bring in Sully or The Incredibles
because they are not part of that world.
Only characters from The Lone Ranger can be played with the Lone Ranger set in Play Set Mode.

Disney
Infinity is less of a simple game than an actual platform unto itself, which is stacked onto another
platform much like the Power Disks are
stacked. It is an endlessly expandable platform; it is
"forwards-compatible", meaning that when new peripherals come around, you can
still play them on your original Disney
Infinity base instead of having to buy a new "system".

As well as
those fantastic demos and presents, there was a life-size Cinderella Coach with Monster Truck Wheels
that people could climb up into and have
their picture taken.
