Okay. Quick show of hands. How many of you remember the
story that JHM posted back on June 24th, where this site revealed
that The Walt Disney Company had purchased the following domain names:
- BEVERLYHILLSCHIHUAHUATWO.COM
- CHIHUAHUA2.COM
The reason I bring this up now is – earlier this week – the California
Film Commission revealed that it would be awarding tax credits to 25 upcoming
productions (which will all be shot in California). And among the films &
TV projects to receive a tax credit was “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2” (which –
according to the Los Angeles Times – is now a direct-to-video production).
So when The Walt Disney Company registers a domain name
(especially when it comes to film-related projects), it’s usually a pretty strong
indicator that the Mouse has plans for that particular title. Which is why I
know that all you Pixar fans out there will be delighted to hear that – just yesterday
– Disney registered the following domain name:
- MONSTERS2.COM
Copyright Disney / Pixar. All Rights Reserved
Which is yet another sign that a sequel to Pixar’s 2001
release, “Monsters, Inc.” is actually in the works.
Mind you, the Mouse did register a couple of other
interesting domain names yesterday. Among them:
- WORLDWARROBOT-MOVIE.COM
- WORLDWARROBOTMOVIE.COM
- WORLDWARROBOTTHEMOVIE.COM
Which — most likely — have ties to that series of graphic novels that Jerry Bruckheimer just acquired the feature rights to.
And then there’s that somewhat bizarre domain that Disney just grabbed. Which seems to have less to do with the studio’s development track than it has to do with someone’s urinary tract:
- OHSAYCANYOUPEE.COM
And then back on July 25th, Mickey registered two
domain names that suggest – come the Fall – Disney on Broadway will begin offering
discounted tickets to its New York production of “Mary Poppins” :
- MARYPOPPINSOFFER.COM
- POPPINSOFFER.COM
Copyright Disney Theatrical, Inc. All Rights Reserved
And if you’re balking at paying top dollar for the new Blu-ray version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” you might want to keep an
eye on these four domain names:
- SNOWWHITELOWPRICE.COM
- SNOWWHITESAVE10.COM
- SNOWWHITECOUPON.COM
- SNOWWHITEOFFER.COM
Which suggest that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is
readying an extensive rebate program for this new DVD release.
And then you have to wonder – given that “The Lion King” is
the highest grossing hand-drawn animated feature of all time – if Walt Disney
Animation Studios is now toying with producing a pseudo-sort-of a sequel. Given
that – back on July 9th – they actually registered this domain name:
Copyright Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved
- THETIGERKINGMOVIE.COM
There. That should give JHM readers some food for thought as we head into
the last Friday of July 2009. Have a great weekend, okay?
