Feeling pretty confident about this year’s Halloween costume, are you? Fairly certain that you’re going to take top prize at tonight’s party?
Well, you’d better hope and pray that Eric Skodis isn’t going to the same Halloween party that you’re attending this evening.
“Who’s Eric Skodis?,” you ask. Well, the talented Mr. Skodis has worked in the make-up effects business for about 10 years now. He’s been part of the production team on motion pictures like “Battlefield Earth” and “Incident at Loch Ness.” But what Eric really loves are the Disney theme parks.
“How much does Mr. Skodis love the Disney theme parks?,” you query. Well, check out the outfits that Eric and his girlfriend will be wearing to this year’s Halloween party …

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Those are two really-for-real people dressed up as the auctioneer and the redhead from the “Pirates of the Caribbean.” And the detailing is absolutely amazing. I mean, check out this close-up of Mr. Skodis’ mask:

Mind you, Eric doesn’t limit himself to just recreating characters from “Pirates.” He recently put together a costume that pays tribute to a character that actually got cut out of Disneyland’s “Haunted Mansion” attraction, the infamous “Hatbox Ghost.”

Again, the detailing that Mr. Skodis has been able to achieve with his masks is absolutely amazing.

As you might expect, as soon as Eric walks in the door wearing one of these outfits, he immediately becomes the hit of the party. Particularly with the Disneyana fans. Though — that said — Mr. Skodis was just telling me that, at a recent Halloween shin-dig, he was disappointed when one party-goer pointed to his auctioneer outfit and said: “Hey! It’s that Burger King guy!”
Anyway … In the weeks ahead, I’m hoping that we can persuade Eric to talk about all the time and effort that went into the creation of these great Halloween costumes that so wittily pay tribute to two Disney theme park icons.
But — for now — “properly warned, ye be” that Mr. Skodis is out there, ready to snatch that “Best Costume” prize right out from under you at tonight’s Halloween party. So you may want to put in a little more time & thought into next year’s outfit.
