Mickey Mouse balloons brighten a grey day in Boston

Yesterday was a cold, grey day in Boston. More like November than September. It was just the sort of day that the phrase “Blue Monday” was invented to describe.

So how do you turn a day like that around? By handing out some Mickey Mouse balloons? 2500 of them, to be exact.

Cast members were in Beantown yesterday to help promote Disney Parks & Resort’s new “What Will You Celebrate?” campaign. Where everyone can get in free to a Disney theme park on their birthday in 2009.

To make that Bostonians were actually aware of this offer, Disney set up its mobile Registration Station right in the heart of the city …

… at Downtown Crossing. And then — to help spread the word about this new campaign — cast members began handing out those free Mickey Mouse balloons. Each of which had an invite to the 2009 festivities attached to it.

These cast members then walked out to the outermost edge of this downtown shopping district and began handing out balloons to Bostonians who were strolling down Tremont Street.

And suddenly the city seemed to be filled with Mickey Mouse balloons. You could see them being carried by people who were crossing Boston Common …

… or bobbing above the shoppers who were walking down Washington Street.

And it didn’t matter how big or how old these Bostonians were …

… they all just seemed to love the idea of getting something for free. Be it a Mickey Mouse balloon and/or free admission to a Disney theme park on their birthday. Which then made this grey day in the city seems … Well, a whole lot less grey.

FYI: To help get the word out about Disney Parks & Resorts’ “What Will You Celebrate?” promotion for 2009, the Mouse may be visiting a city near you in the not-so-distant future. In fact, Mickey has three separate Disney Parks Celebration Teams touring the country right now. For further information on upcoming stops on this tour, I suggest that you hammer on this link ASAP.
