“Mickey’s Sweatshop,” “Tink My Ride” and … “Enchanted 2” ?!

In response to last month’s “Is Disney / Pixar finally
getting serious about ‘Monsters, Inc. 2’ “ article, PapaMelrose wrote in to
say:

Sometimes The Walt Disney Company registers domain names not
because they ever intend on actually using them. But because they don’t want
some other company or individual to use them.

This is true. Back on June 30th & July 1st
of this year, Mouse House officials deliberately took a series of domain names
off the market that – had they been registered by an organization and/or an
individual that wished to embarrass Mickey – would have caused the Company
considerable consternation.

These domain names included:

But more often than not, when The Walt Disney Company goes to the time &
trouble to register a domain name … Well, that’s because Disney actually
intends on using that domain name. And when it comes to that trio of names
that the Mouse registered this Sunday & Wednesday:

That’s because the Mouse is planning on doing some
heavy-duty promotion for Disney XD’s new animated series, “Kick Buttowski,
Suburban Daredevil.” Which is supposed to premiere on that cable channel later
this fall.

Of course, in the case of that series of domain names that
The Walt Disney Company registered on August 9th & 16th
…

… we’re talking about a TV movie that the Disney Channel won’t
actually be airing ‘til 2010.

And in the case of this trio of domain names that the Mouse
registered back on August 1st …

… they’re going to be used to help promote the October 27th
release of the second Disney Fairies home premiere, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure.”

Yeah, sometimes The Walt Disney Company grabs a domain name
because they have something planned for the not-so-distant future. Take – for example
– this upcoming promotion for The Happiest Place on Earth:

Whereas in other cases, we’re talking about projects that
are at least two & three years down the line. Speaking of which … Given that “Enchanted” actually ended with that Carrie Underwood song, “Ever Ever
After,” I never thought that I’d actually see a sequel to this Kevin Lima
movie. But when it comes to today’s Hollywood, it’s wise to never to say never. Which is why we’d all best get ready for …

Yep. Disney actually registered these two domain names this
past Saturday. And this time around, I’m betting that the Mouse did this not
because they wanted to prevent some other company from using these titles. But –
rather – because the Studio is seriously considering producing a sequel to this
2007 Walt Disney Pictures release.
