Hey, gang —
Jim Hill checking in. Just a quick note to let you know that things are busy, busy, busy here at JHM.
By that I mean: I’m right in the middle of recording that unauthorized Disneyland history CD. Plus working on the next four installments of my new “Star Tours” series. Plus prepping material for that long-overdue JHM newsletter. Not to mention “Once Upon an Orange Grove.”
So — obviously — I’m a guy with a lot on his plate. Some might say that I have too much on my plate. Which is why I have decided to turn JHM’s day-to-day operations over to Cory Mitchell.
Now you guys know Mr. Mitchell. After all, he’s the guy who’s been writing those “Cory on the Couch” columns. Maybe you’ve seen some of the humorous notes that he’s posted over on JHM’s dicussion boards and/or the great graphics that he’s created for the site.
So I guess what I’m saying is that Cory is already a big part of JimHillMedia.com. And he’s about to assume an even bigger role at the site. For I’ve just made him JHM’s new managing editor.
“Now what does that mean exactly?,” you ask. “Does that mean that — all of a sudden — we’re going to start seeing all of these huge changes at the site? Or — God forbid — less Jim Hill on JimHillMedia.com?”
Not to worry, folks. JHM is going to remain the same old site that you already know and love. More importantly, I’m still going to churn out my usual steady stream of stories for JimHillMedia.com, doing my weekly “Why For” columns and all that. So — from the front of the house, anyway — it’ll appear as if there’s hardly been any changes here at all.
However — at the back of the house — Cory’s going to start doing a lot of JHM’s heavy lifting. As in: He’s going to been the one who schedules what stories run when on the site. He’s also going to be the guy who does a lot of JimHillMedia.com’s prep work from here on in (I.E. Editing articles, formatting photos, etc.) Not to mention recruiting new columnists to come write for the site.
To be honest, becoming JHM’s managing editor is a rather thankless job. In that he’ll have to do virtually all the hard work around here and get almost none of the credit. Which is why I’m really like to thank Mr. Mitchell for agreeing to take on this position.
And — speaking of Mr. Mitchell — why don’t I shut up for a moment and let JHM’s new managing editor speak for himself?
Thanks, Jim. As Jim mentioned in his intro, I’ve been working at JHM for over a year now. And I’ve really enjoyed working with Mr. Hill on a daily basis. One might say that I’ve kind of become addicted to the zany antics that go on backstage here at Jim Hill Media. And that — over time — this site has become sort of like “The Muppet Show,” with Jim taking on the Kermit the Frog role. As he constantly tries to get a rag-tag group of Disney/Entertainment lovers to pull together and give JHM readers something to enjoy each week.
But anyone who watches “The Muppet Show” knows the constant stress & strain that Kermit is under. Which is why I’m looking forward to playing Fozzie Bear to Jim’s Kermit. Lighting Hill’s load, so to speak. (Though — keeping this somewhat labored Muppet analogy going for a few more moments — if you’d don’t like what we’re doing at JHM, feel free to do your Statler & Waldorf impression. As in: Send along comments about what you like and/or don’t like about what ‘s going on at the site. Jim and I will always welcome your input.)
Anyway … As Mr. Hill just said, the job that I’m about to undertake may be thankless. But — that said — I still can’t wait to get started. In fact, my first big project for the site will be a new recruitment effort that will (hopefully) bring a lot of new writers onboard at Jim Hill Media.
So if you’d be interested in joining our rag-tag bunch, please send along a writing sample as well as a brief resume to cory@jimhillmedia.com. I’ll be writing a column for the site sometime later this week that will break down specifically the sorts of writers and stories that we’re looking for. So get cracking on those samples, people. I look forward to reviewing your submissions with Jim.
And — speaking of Mr. Hill — why don’t I now hand this column back over to him?
Thanks, Cory. So — as I said earlier — I want to thank Mr. Mitchell for agreeing to take on JHM’s managing editor position. With his help, I’ll now be able to spend more time writing and less time managing JHM’s day-to-day crud.
And — speaking of writing — I still have a “Star Tours” series to finish. So I guess I’ll talk to you guys later, okay?
