Well, you know how things don’t always go as planned? That’s this week for me. So instead of a column, I’m sharing some photo’s that should have gone with some of the recent efforts. (I’m not about to dig into the archives just yet…)
So being a bit down this week, here I am with Eeyore who certainly understands how things can get this way.
I’m still working on more stories in the series I’ve been keeping you amused with. Lots more to share yet to come.
Starting off, here are a couple of views from the trip to Germany in 2001.
Bacharach was a great place. This is a view of what could pass as the main street looking south.
Here’s a view from that great balcony of Room 13 as Schloss Schoenburg. With trains such as the ICE (InterCity Express) and the barge traffic, it wasn’t hard to keep entertained. This is Oberwesel looking to the south in late afternoon.
Thanks to some recent advice, I can now again enjoy a glass of wine on occasion. So I’m looking forward to tasting some of the vintage we brought back from the vines shown here at Schloss Johanisberg in the heart of the Rheingau.
Baseball was outstanding last week as the Oakland A’s did take two out of three games from the New York Yankees! Here’s a view of the Oakland (a.k.a. Network Associates) Coliseum during a night game a few years back. The guy at the plate got all the boo’s he deserved from the A’s home crowd during the Yankees visit.
Heading to the southland, it is Paramount Studios and the old entry gate, as seen on the studio tour in 1999. Hope they start those up again soon, as it was a lot of fun.
With all of the rumors that flew over the summer about the return of the Disneyland submarine fleet, I couldn’t resist sharing a view of the one that started it all for the DL Silent Service, #301, the “Nautilus”.
A view I have become well accustomed to… the pedestrian entry walkway from the gate to the lobby at the Grand Californian. Michele and my mom and the little pin sharks will be visiting without me next weekend.
Finishing up this week, a plug for an upcoming private car excursion. We’re doing a one-day roundtrip out of Oakland to Bakersfield and back on Saturday, October 18. It’s an all Santa Fe day along the route of the “Golden Gate” trains that used to run between Oakland and Bakersfield before Amtrak. Visit the web pages at www.privatecarservice.net for more details. It’s priced reasonably and should be a great day!
And the trip does have Disney connection. We hope to use a dome lounge car that once was part of the famed “Super Chief” — the train Walt Disney and Ward Kimball used to travel from Los Angeles to Chicago in 1949 to visit the Railroad Fair and Greenfield Village.
So, that’s all folks! More photos to come with future columns!
Hope you enjoyed this abbreviated effort, back next week with the tale of how you can enjoy a very leisurely voyage on a World War II steam ship!
And thanks again to everyone who shows their appreciation using Roger’s Amazon Honor System Paybox. As Eeyore so appropriately says, “Thanks for noticing me.”
