Well, I’m back again. In the southland, that is…
I’m once again taking advantage of great fares and the ease of using the classic terminal and portables at Long Beach’s airport or LGB for those keeping track of airport/destination codes. LGB is kind of ironic as it’s also the trademark of Lehmann Gross Bahn (best know for their G scale garden railway trains – such as those running around the garden of the German pavilion at Walt Disney World’s Epcot in Orlando).
Other favorite destination codes include BFD for Bakersfield (Very appropriate if you’ve never been there, or like Kirk Hansen, can say you escaped from there. Nice Basque restaurants, however. Especially the “Wool Growers”.)and FAT for Fresno (Anyone else out there have a copy of the 1986 CBS miniseries comedy or am I the only one who admit to it? “The Power, The Passion, The Produce — Fresno”) – that’s short for the Fresno Air Terminal.
But enough about that. It’s Jet Blue, again, as you may recall from one of my earliest columns here. I’m off to see the sights and maybe fall into Downtown Disney along the way. Finally visiting the Red Cars in San Pedro, and even riding the Metro Light Rail down to Los Angeles Union Station. I’m showing someone a private railroad car for a trip they have in mind for next summer. But that all comes after the other two railroad projects, Joshua Tree and Orange Empire.
Back next week with who knows what that finds me along the way in sunny southern California…
