Ruminations: Short but Sweet

What is this? the new JHM Control Center?

Nope. It’s the old “Mission to Mars” Mission Control center, under the watchful eyes of Mr. Johnson. Enjoy your pizza, pasta or salad here now at Redd Rocket’s Pizza Port, one of the few bright spots in the current incarnation of Disneyland?s Tomorrowland. The First JHM “Night at the Movies” is all of three short weeks away! Sure would be nice if more folks could join in what promises to be a fine evening! Drop a note to the JHM Message Boards to let us know if you’ll be joining us.

Speaking of the Boards, I had promised a contest for the best new topics. As we’re still a bit shy in participation, I’ve quietly extended the deadline for that. But all good things must come to an end. So the end of this contest will officially be next Friday, August 13 at 11:59 Pacific Daylight Time. So start a new topic before then and you might win one of three great prizes!

And if you’ve had any problem getting set up on these new Boards to post, please drop me a note and I’ll walk you through getting registered.

A couple of quick things of note out and about on the web:

Apple’s iTunes Music Store had added some great out of print jazz albums from the Verve label. One I?m enjoying in particular is “Cat House Piano” by Meade “Lux” Lewis from 1955. Very reminiscent of Rod Miller and the various piano players in all of the New Orleans Square jazz groups over the years. In particular, I’m fond of the “Bush Street Boogie,” after having driven on the street of the same name many times over the years in San Francisco.

And a Cafe Press store that you might find amusing is that of Jeff Pidgeon. Some pretty amusing designs there! You might have seen some of Jeff’s other work on display in the Animation building in Disney’s California Adventure. Next time you’re there, check out some of the concept artwork for “Toy Story,” and you’ll see his name on some of those early designs. Another claim to fame for Jeff is that he’s the voice of the little green aliens from “Toy Story” as well as being heard in other Pixar projects. “We have a 2319!”

So that’s all for this week. Coming up, I do intend to share a bit about why a film made by Disney in the Fifties may have been even more important to the company’s future than Disneyland. Don’t miss it!

And as always, thanks to you. Our loyal supporters keep us here doing what we do best. Churning out more infotainment for another week! A buck or two dropped in the JHM Amazon donation box really does amazing things?
