The El Capitan Theatre’s “Peter Pan Plus” programming event to feature live music & animation art demonstrations

Peter Pan flying off clock

You’ve heard about Fast Pass Plus, right? Well, this
Saturday morning, the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood
will be home to Peter Pan Plus. Which will (in theory, anyway) be able to give
all you J.M. Barrie fans out there a new appreciation for the many & varied
ways that The Walt Disney Company celebrates the boy who never grew up.

The festivities actually get started right next door at Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio Store. Where — starting at 8:30 a.m. — Jake from
Disney Junior‘s “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” will be hosting a special
character breakfast.

Once breakfast is served, it’s time then to move on over into the movie theater.
Where Sharky and Bones of the Never Land Pirate Band will be performing live
onstage in honor of Jake’s birthday. There’ll be lots of fun & surprise
& giveaways, thanks to the nice folks at Radio Disney.

Then — after a special episode of “Jack and the Never
Land Pirates” is screened — it’s now time for “Peter Pan.” This particular Walt Disney Animation Studios production will soon be celebrating
the 60th anniversary of its original theatrical release. But as
you look at the beautifully restored version of this film which is currently
being presented at the El Cap with its state-of-the-art digital projection
system and high definition sound, the years just fall away. And “Peter Pan” — much like the boy who never grew up — remains a timeless piece of entertainment.

Mind you, if you want to learn a little something about how “Peter
Pan” was actually produced back in the day, then you really want to make your way
back into Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio Store after this early morning
screening of this animated classic ends. Because that’s where the fine artists & technicians who work at S/R
Laboratories Animation Art Conservation Center
will be doing an art production demonstration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Using the new Captain Hook set-up from their Walt Disney
Studio Replicas line for this in-store demo, the S/R Labs staff will walk you through
how these 12 field production-sized cels was created. These limited edition
pieces of animation art are being created from original pieces of “Peter
Pan” production art and feature period-specific Walt Disney Animation Studios techniques such as
airbrushing, dry brush work and hand-inked detailing.

Now please keep in mind that — if you’re a Disney Villains
fan — only 25 of these Walt Disney Studio Replicas are ever going to be
created.  So if you just can’t see
yourself living without one of these Captain cel and its 17 colors, you’d really better
hook it fast. Because you have to know — given that these highly collectible pieces of
animation art (which will be presented in a hand-lettered mat & will have a
Certificate of Authenticity featuring the Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio
Store logo) are being sold for just $125 apiece —  they’re sure to go fast.

Of course, if that’s outside of your price range and/or
you’re not going to be out & about in Hollywood
this Saturday morning … Not to worry. You can still get in on the “Peter
Pan” -related fun by purchasing a copy of the Diamond Edition of this
hand-drawn masterwork. Which Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will be
releasing on Blu-ray and HD digital on February 5th. Which — believe it or not — actually is the 60th
anniversary of the theatrical release of this Walt Disney Animation Studios
production.
